Festivals

Lively and engaging, with a home-spun delivery, Suzanne and Jim gather an audience and transport them on a journey through the best of Americana Roots Music.

At music festivals this duo takes center stage holding their own with other music groups both large and small who represent a variety of musical genres from Bluegrass to international and modern folk.

Not content to imitate the sound of early artists, Suzanne and Jim recast the old-timey style in their own voices keeping true to the original spirit - a pleasant and joyful telling of the old songs for modern ears.

"You love what you do. It shows. It makes everyone in an audience happy. You make us laugh, tap our toes, sing along, get involved, because we pick up on your spirit."

Arkansas Territorial Restoration Education Director, Little Rock, AR

In addition to their performances, Suzanne and Jim have been especially commended for their on-stage presence and have served as stage hosts and MCs at a number of festivals and events.

Concerts

From intimate house concert settings to 1000 seat auditoriums, from 19 th Century Opera Houses to riverside gazebos, and from music clubs to paddle-wheel excursion boats Suzanne and Jim have delighted audiences across the nation.

Versatile and skillful performers on a number of acoustic instruments - the 5 string banjo, guitars, flute, courtship dulcimer and a variety of others - they infect listeners with their love of life and their passion for Americana Roots Music. From the first notes to the last applause, audiences from all walks of life have found their days brightened, their heart-strings tugged, and their smiles polished by enjoying this accomplished pair in concert.

With award-winning vocals and melodious harmonies interspersed with gentle, wryly humorous story-telling they carry the audience across the peaks and valleys of human emotions.

Workshops

Workshops generally follow one of two formats. They may be mini-concerts focusing on some particular topic or they may be a hands-on learning experience.

Suzanne and Jim have moderated workshops on a number of subjects including Carter Family Songs, 19 th Century popular songwriters, and Old Timey sing-arounds, and are always ready to participate in sessions where Americana Roots music is appropriate. Because of their familiarity with a broad base of traditional and historic music they can contribute to many different workshop themes.

IBMA Banjo Workshop

Jim has been a teacher of the clawhammer banjo style for nearly 30 years. In 1978-79 he authored the Old Time Tutorial for Banjo Newsletter exposing players of all styles to the clawhammer method. For beginning level students he offers private lessons or small workshops. For advanced level players he works with small groups to improve their techniques and to help them find new avenues for exploration.

Suzanne teaches the individual style of traditional clogging to participants wishing to learn elements of Appalachian folk dance.
Emphasis is placed on learning the basics followed by examples of creating rhythms to express

each individual's interpretation of the music. A real "foots-on" experience requiring a wood floor and hard-soled shoes, Suzanne's clogging workshops have been the highlight of numerous music gatherings.
