Sandwiched between Halloween and Christmas Day, Thanksgiving as a holiday is often overlooked in the bustle of the season. But who among us is not moved by recollection of childhood celebrations, perhaps at Grandmother's, with the extended
family gathered to tell the old stories (and new), to sing the old songs and enjoy the bounty that seems to flow from the kitchen.
Suzanne and Jim have assembled a landscape portrait of traditional songs reflective of these joyous occasions. Naturally, Over The River and Through The Woods has an honored place in the set as well as the traditional tune Harvest Home for which the program is titled. The Shaker song Simple Gifts reminds us of the best gift of all and a rousing Missouri folk song The Old Cane Press recalls syrup boiling time.
Harvest Home is a celebration of the Autumn Harvest season in traditional song and tale. With blended voices, a mix of musical instruments- guitar, 5-String banjo, flute and a few surprises- Suzanne and Jim dress the stage for an enjoyable accompaniment to the Thanksgiving holiday and, in fact, the entire Fall season.
